Day 8, Saturday March 15th
Cruising towards Madeira

Not an early start today. It has been comfortable cruising all day, no rough waves, but not much sunshine either, mostly very cloudy. Breakfast much as usual! After breakfast I made a start on yesterdays reporting but stopped to attend a lecture at 10.00 on Madeira and Porto Santo by Colin Newsome. I left it until rather the last minute so we didn't get very good seats and couldn't see the screen very well. As we are going on trips on both the days we shall be there we shall probably see most of what is there anyway.

After the lecture I gave myself a shampoo and set. Then it was time for lunch. We had soup to begin with. I had chicken legs and spaghetti with sweet and sour vegetables and jelly and blancmange for afters. In the afternoon I proceeded with my report. Yesterday was such a busy day there was much to tell. At about 3.00 I felt tired and had half an hour's kip! At tea the game was Countdown. We had hoped to sit outside but it was rather chilly. Those who were outside mostly had cardigans or fleeces and we hadn't brought ours with us. After the tea break it was back to work until 6 when we had to dress for dinner.

Tonight was Ladies' Night, whatever difference that made! I had duck and orange salad followed by beef medallion then cheese and biscuits, which weren't particularly nice. Won't make that mistake again. J had soup, beef and mixed ice cream.

The evening's entertainment consisted of some dancing with a difference, like progressive waltzes, elimination dances and all change partners etc. Leo Andrew gave another medley of songs - especially for the ladies! Ron Dale gave us some more of his bagpipe magic and Scottish humour. I wish I could remember jokes! It was a good night.

No photos today and not a great deal to report which helps me a lot! Tomorrow will be a busy day but our excursion is not until the afternoon. Its now 11.30 so its Good Night.
