It had been a reasonably smooth night's sailing. Not many people were in the restaurant when we arrived at about 8.30. I must say it was good not to have to rush to go out but I find that nothing to see outside but sea to be somewhat boring! Breakfast, J had his usual fish and scrambled egg. I had a muffin after my fruit salad, which made a nice change. We tried sitting out on an outside deck but I found it too windy. J stayed out for a while so I went to the lecture about Falmouth which included something of the Eden Project where we will be going on Friday. We met up for coffee afterwards. We had that on the Lido deck and although the sun came out it really was too windy to stay long. We sat instead in the Aquitaine lounge which is less crowded than the Neptune and the seats are more comfortable. I have been reading the book about the Eden Project and doing some puzzles today from the current Puzzles Galore.
At the noon bulletin we had covered 307 nautical miles since Porto Santo. We had over 700 to go before reaching England.
Lunch - turkey, salmon and salad, mousse, blancmange and custard. J had smoked salmon, salad and chips. This afternoon we both slept! I guess all the walking on the tours was very tiring. Although we coped, just, we have aches and pains in all sorts of places. Knees seem to have suffered most. Its good to be having a couple of days rest.
We didn't go for afternoon tea. I did some catching up on diary writing. Tonight was British Night so we had to dress in red white and blue! Some had gone to a lot of trouble and one lady appeared as Britannia. Dinner was quite British. The men were provided with a Union Jack bow tie and the ladies had a Union Jack flag. We had beef Wellington and trifle. The entire entertainment programme was on a British theme with traditional ballroom dancing, elimination dance, Sing-along from the provided song-sheet with Angelito on the keyboard. More flags were given out so that everyone could wave them in great patriotism during the singing. Finally, late 10pm, the British Show by Deja Vu. Both the Song-time and the Show reflected aspects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and they didn't overlap very much!
Actually one did not feel particularly proud to be British with the country's support of the pending war against Iraq.
